Built-in functions
The names you can call, and the ones that are not there. 2 examples.
Built-in names ignore case. A call needs parentheses, except the constants π, pi, ∞, inf, ʝ, machineprecision, and random, which may be written with empty parentheses. The logarithms are ln, log10, and log2. There is no log. sqrt of a negative real is imaginary. ln(0) is rejected. It is not −∞. ! and factorial need a whole number from 0 through 170. random is a fixed sequence in [0, 1). The same sheet gives the same sequence every time. min and max pick among values. They do not search. sin, cos, tan, asin, acos, atan, and sinh, cosh, tanh, asinh, acosh, atanh take radians. abs is the modulus. real and imag take one part. complex(re, im) builds a complex value. The mathematical italic 𝑒 is exp. A plain e is a name. ∞ is the number +∞. Arithmetic with it, and integrals that use it as a limit, are on the Integration page.
Logs, a square root, a factorial
y is 0, z is 2, w is 3, s is 2ʝ, and n is 120. log(10) is not a logarithm.
Rejected
ln(0) is an invalid argument. It is not −∞. The same rejection is log10 or log2 of a number that is not positive.
